First Multiplex PCR Real-Time Diagnostic Test

The platform provides, for the first time, the simultaneous (or multiplex) qualitative detection and differentiation of three common microorganisms causing the sexually transmitted infections: Chlamydia trachomatis (CT), Neisseria gonorrhoea (NG) and Mycoplasma genitalium (MG).

The Dx CT/NG/MG assay offers broad flexibility, superior ease-of-use, and is designed to test specimens from both symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals. The system’s sample transport system preserves the integrity of the sample for weeks at room temperature.

As part of the launch, Bio-Rad introduced the Dx real-time system, a PCR instrument that is equipped with an on-board barcode reader. The combined solution offers key advantages that are important in addressing some of today’s critical public health challenges:

  • Chlamydia trachomatis , the world’s most common bacterial sexually transmitted infection (STI), has an estimated 89 million new cases per year according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

  • Neisseria gonorrhoeae infection, leads to an estimated 62 million new cases every year of gonorrhoea according to WHO estimates.

  • Mycoplasma genitalium infection, one of the newest discovered sexually transmitted infections, accounts for 20 to 35% of non-chlamydial non-gonococcal urethritis in men and causes cervicitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, and possib ly infertility in women.
